El Sancho is an American punk rock band from Waikoloa, Hawaii, United States. Formed in 2019, the three core members Al Sancho (guitar, vocals), Nate Werneck (bass, vocals) and Tony Joyce (drums, vocals) usually perform as a trio, but have been joined by guitarists Jose Colmenares and Greg Toliver at different points. The band’s name is a reference to El Sancho taqueria in Bend, Oregon, where Werneck grew up. Their fast-paced, melodic songs with witty lyrics are reminiscent of 1990s punk bands like Mr T Experience, Bad Religion and Screeching Weasel.

The band ascribes to the DIY punk ethic, recording and releasing their albums themselves[1] and booking all-ages concerts whenever possible. The band has released their music on a variety of formats, including colored vinyl[2], picture disc[3], compact disc and cassette tape[4].

El Sancho has performed across the Hawaiian Islands, opening for bands such as FEAR, Agent Orange[5], Supersuckers[6], Teenage Bottlerocket[7], D.O.A. and others. Their 2021 Holiday-themed album Jollier Than Thou has several songs that have been played on SiriusXM and many independent radio stations.

Their 2023 album Heads Up! was mastered by Jack Endino and received airplay on college radio stations, including KXLU[8], WNYU[9], and KALX[10].

During the COVID pandemic, they recorded two songs live at the Hilo Palace Theater, which were broadcast on PBS as part of the Live from the Empty Palace[11] series.
