Edward Sidney Webster (26 April 1911 - 26 November 1942) was an Australian gunner for the 2/2nd Anti Tank / Tank Attack Regiment. He is known for being the only casualty in the Battle of Brisbane.
Military career and early life
Webster was born in Sydney on 26 April 1911, for most of his early years, he resided in Millmerran, Queensland. He enlisted in the Australian Army on 3 June 1940 as a gunner for the 2/2nd Anti Tank / Tank Attack Regiment. He served until 26 November 1942 when he died.[1]
Death
Edward Sidney Webster was killed in the Battle of Brisbane from a gunshot wound to the chest by Norbert Grant, an American MP. Grant was later court-martialed on 27 February 1943 for manslaughter but was found innocent on the grounds of self-defense.[2]
