Edward Ross Barretto Occeno[1] a native of Bacolod City, Negros Occidental Province, Philippines, born on October 7, 1986 to Eduardo Guanco Occeno[2] (deceased) and Cecile Barretto Occeno. A businessman that currently runs a BPO[3] industry in various cities of the Philippines. He is currently the Founder, Vice President & Chief Finance Officer of Edge Ltd[4], a professor in the college of nursing in the University of St. La Salle. A philanthropist and a devote Catholic. Made his efforts in the contribution to his community during the COVID 19 pandemic through opening the doors of his company to the jobless as well as teaching in the nursing profession to answer the call on the decline of nurses in the Philipines as one of the world's supplier of nurses[5].

Education

His preschool and elementary years started in University of St. La Salle, from 1993 to 1995. In 1995 he transferred to La Consolacion College Bacolod where he spent half of his elementary years and highschool until 2003. Awarded with Leadership Award for his meritorious efforts as Speaker of the House of Representatives in the School's student council. Received the Duty and Efficiency Medal Award for his service in the Citizens Advancement Training Program[6].He then went to Colegio San Agustin Bacolod[7] 2003 - 2007 where he took up Bachelor of Science in Nursing. He served the College as the treasurer in the college of nursing in 2005 - 2007. Passed the December 2007 Professional Regulation Commission[8] Nurse Licensure Examinations in Iloilo City, in 2008 he took his Masters degree in Nursing in West Negros University and finished in October 2010. He then took his Masters in Arts in the same University and finished in 2011. Took his Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt[9] by Opus Global Solutions Inc., in Manila in 2015.

Nursing career

Occeno began his career as a registered nurse[10] in 2008 in Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital Bacolod[11] and began his training in the Floor 1 Medical wards emphasizing holistic care mostly to the destitute, the terminally and critically ill patients. Despite being underpaid, he remained a young and dynamic nurse until he transferred to the General Surgical Department in 2010 caring for the pre and the post operative patients. He then was assigned to the Pediatric Ward in 2011. As an experienced registered nurse[12] he then focused in the Adult Intensive Care Unit AICU in 2012 and highlighted his career when the first case of MERS-CoV hit the hospital never fearing the virus itself, the very opportunity that made him to do the extra mile during the COVID 19 pandemic.

Administrative Management Career

Occeno was offered an administrative position in Moncomm Media Holdings Group of Companies Inc[13] from 2015 to 2019 He started as an administrative OIC, he created a system for the company to utilize resources and track down data from warehouses and offices. 2016 he was formally appointed as the new Administrative Manager and catered the companies' offices around the country travelling from Manila, Cebu and Iloilo. he acquired his trainings like project management under Fiera de Manila, Inc. and Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt by Opus Global Solutions Inc. In 2018, while being the Administrative manager, he was appointed as the OIC for the Printing Bureau and Logistics. He Visited the Archbishop of Jaro[14] Jose Romeo Lazo, DD as part of his project of erection of a billboard in one of the church's properties. It mutually benefited the church financially and the company he worked with.

as the Vice President & Chief Finance Officer

Occeno founded his BPO company Edge Ltd[15] in June 18, 2019, and took the position Vice President & Chief Finance Officer[16] on November 15, 2019. December 2019 he proposed the Smart City project to the Bacolod City[17] Mayor Evelio Leonardia[18]. A project that captivated the mind of the city mayor. This was one of the program of the Department of Information and Communications Technology made available to all Filipinos. Occeno, worked his effort to push this project collaborating with the Department of Information and Communications Technology and made his 5 phased proposal. The Smart City Project was ambitious and ambiguous but for Occeno, it was achievable. He planned on his first phase to have an eagle's eye view of the city, free wifi on all public areas and accessibility in the governments' services to the public. March 15, 2020 meetings halted unfortunately due to the outbreak if the COVID 19 pandemic. This was hard times for Occeno's company as the COVID 19 Pandemic spread quickly to the entire globe, strict lockdown was imposed. The BPO[19] industry were allowed to operate following strict protocols. This was a challenge to Occeno especially to the finances of his company but as a philanthropist, he managed to market his company for him to hire more employees when most lost their jobs. Occeno opened the doors of his company to both undergraduates and the jobless. This mutually benefited his newly hired employees and his company.

A University Professor

In August 2020, during the onset of the COVID 19 pandemic, Occeno made his contribution to the society and the medical field when nurses were exhausted and depleting. He applied to teach in the college of nursing as a clinical instructor at the University of St. La Salle as part time professor, he used his acquired skills and experiences as a nurse to train more nurses. The challenge of the pandemic is immensely great, however, Occeno viewed the challenge as an opportunity for nurses to serve and to answer their vocation. He had his passion for teaching and passing his learnings and experiences to new generation of nurses. Occeno became a full time Professor of Nursing in 2021 while running his company and is currently teaching Psychiatric Nursing[20], Medical - Surgical Nursing[21] and the Operating Room Nursing[22]. He received a merit award[23] for the academic year 2020 - 2021 for his exemplary performance in the college of nursing[24] of the University of St. La Salle.
