Edmond Wroe Freeman, III (May 31, 1926 -May 31, 2021) was a newspaperman in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, serving as editor and then publisher of the Pine Bluff Commercial. During his tenure in the 1950s and 1960s, in the latter days of the Jim Crow laws, the daily newspaper devoted significant coverage of the civil rights movement and published a series of editorials by Paul Greenberg (journalist) that garnered the 1969 Pulitzer Prize. Also during his tenure and under his guidance, the paper played an important role in the ultimately successful efforts to prevent the damming of Arkansas's Buffalo River, which in 1972 was designated the first national river in the U.S.
