Edgar Sargsyan (born February 20, 1981) is an Armenian-American attorney and businessman. He was born in Armenia, which was formerly the Soviet Socialist Republic of Armenia. His father was a judge and his mother was a homemaker. He attended Yerevan State University's Faculty of Law from 1997 to 2001. In 2004, he emigrated to the United States of America.[1]

Career

Sargsyan worked in various law offices throughout his career as a legal assistant until he joined Pillar Law Group as a foreign attorney partner. After obtaining his license to practice law in California he went into solo practice and founded "Sargsyan and Associates." Both law firms were based in Beverly Hills, California.

Sargsyan has been involved in various business ventures throughout his career. Notable entities he founded were Regdalin Properties, a real estate holding company, Regdalin Aviation, Regdalin Production Company and 999 Private Jet, LLC.[2]

Sargsyan owned two jets: a British Hawker 800 with tail number N888ZZ [3] and a British Gulfstream G4 XP with tail number N999SE [4].

Sargsyan was also one of the financiers of the Sharon Stone movie “All I Wish” through Regdalin Production Company.[5]

Legal troubles

The SBK Law Suit

In 2016, Lev Aslan Dermen, also known as Levon Termendzhyan, [6][7] filed a lawsuit against Sargsyan and his companies (Case #BC649108), alleging that Sargsyan embezzled around $25,000,000 and a jet from Dermen’s company called SBK Holdings, USA.

Sargsyan filed a countersuit, and eventually, in October of 2021, after an intense legal battle and a few depositions taken from Mr Dermen, The Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Honorable Dennis J. Landin dismissed the entire action and declared Sargsyan the prevailing party.[8]

Bribery Scheme

In April 2020, Edgar Sargsyan was charged and pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1349; two counts of giving and offering a bribe to a public official, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 201(b)(1)(C); and two counts of making false statements, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1001(a)(2).[9][10]

The federal agents involved in the bribery scheme were FBI Counterintelligence Special Agent Babak Broumand and Department of Homeland Security HSI Special Agent Felix Cisneros.[11][12]

HSI Agent Cisneros was convicted and sentenced to 121 months and FBI Agent Broumand was convicted and sentenced to 72 months in federal prison by United States District Court Judge Honorable Gary Klausner.[13][14]

Edgar Sargsyan testified against both federal agents during their trial.

The CA Bar Exam controversy

A day before his scheduled testimony against the former FBI counterintelligence Special Agent Babak Broumand, Mr. Sargsyan revealed that he paid his former law partner at Pillar Law Group, Henrik Mosesi $20,000 per month for several months to study and take the California Bar Exam on his behalf.[15][16]

Mr. Sargsyan no longer practices law.[17] His disbarment is still pending with the California State Bar after he pleaded guilty to five felony counts.[18]

Political contributions

Sargsyan has made political contributions to various candidates, including Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton,[19] and Donald Trump.[20]

He is known to have connections with prominent political figures such as former President pro Tempore of the California State Senate Kevin de Leon, former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, and current Governor Gavin Newsom.[21]

Personal life

Sargsyan is married and has three children. He has been involved in various philanthropic causes, including his support for the After-School All-Stars program, organized by its founder Arnold Schwarzenegger.[22]
