DuoCards is language-learning mobile-first application focused on vocabulary learning through spaced-repetition and flashcards. It is developed by the Czech company based in Brno. The app is available on Android, iOS, the web, and as a Chrome extension.

History

DuoCards was created in 2020 by Petr Heralecký, later joined by co-founder Radim Poloch. In December 2023, the app received an pre-seed investment from the venture capital fund N1 to support feature development and international marketing. In 2025 app total registrations reached 6M+ users.

Features

The app's focus is on user-generated and curated flashcards organized into decks and reviewed by DuoCards admin to maintain the quality of learning. Users can also create cards on their own or save the words and phrases from articles and YouTube video. Chrome extension allows translating and saving vocabulary from web pages. App includes an integrated translator, AI-assisted content generation, AI chat, listening-mode and libraries of shared sets, articles, and videos.

Platforms and availability

DuoCards is distributed on the Google Play Store and App Store and is also accessible via a browser app.

Reception

Technology and education outlets have described DuoCards as a flashcard-based vocabulary builder that uses spaced repetition and is good to be used alongside other, more comprehensive language courses. In 2023, Wired included DuoCards in its list of recommended language-learning apps as a supplemental visual-vocabulary builder. Independent language-learning blogs have reviewed the app positively for easy-to-use and the save-from-anywhere workflow, while noting limitations typical of flashcard-focused tools.
