Drusilla Blackman is an American higher education administrator and consultant.[1] She previously held admissions leadership roles at Columbia University and Harvard University and now works as an education consultant.[1][2]
Early Life and Education
Blackman earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from Brown University. Blackman graduated in 1976 from Brown University, where she majored in psychology. [3][4] She later earned an M.B.A. in marketing from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1982.[3]
Career
Columbia University
Blackman joined Columbia University’s admissions office in the 1980s and later served as assistant director of admissions.[3] In 1993, Columbia appointed her Dean of Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid, a newly unified position overseeing admissions and financial aid for both Columbia College and the School of Engineering and Applied Science.[3]
In this role, she directed the development of the consolidated admissions and financial aid offices and oversaw undergraduate recruitment and aid administration.[3]
Harvard University
Prior to her return to Columbia, Blackman served at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences as Director of Admissions and was later promoted to Dean of Admissions.[3][4]
According to reporting at the time, she managed a $2 million annual operating budget and supervised a staff of 60. She also oversaw a $43 million financial aid budget and minority recruitment initiatives.[3]
Return to Columbia
In October 1993, Blackman returned to Columbia University as Dean of Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid.[3] [4]
Admissions Consultant
After her tenure in university admissions, Blackman began working as an education consultant.[2]
