Dr. Narendra Vaidya is an Adult Reconstructive Orthopedic and Joint replacement surgeon in Pune, India. He is the Founder and Managing Director of Lokmanya Hospitals Pvt Ltd. Dr. Vaidya is awarded many prestigious awards like Rashtriya Ratna Award, Navbharat Health Excellence Award, and many other such recognitions. Dr. Vaidya pioneered and introduced Robotic Assisted Joint Replacement Surgery in India. With the technology, more than 7000 knee replacement surgeries have been successfully performed by him, which are the highest in the series. He holds a vast experience of more than 28 years, with more than 100000 Orthopedic Surgeries and more than 20000 Joint Replacement surgeries successfully performed by him.
Early Life and Education
Dr. Vaidya was born to Dr. V. G. Vaidya, a General surgeon and chairman at Lokmanya Medical Foundation, and Mrs. Ratnaprabha Vaidya, on April 14, 1968. A distinguished alumnus of the prestigious B. J. Medical College, Pune affiliated with the Poona University in 1989, a gold medalist in not just orthopedics, but all the branches of surgery in 1994. His father was his inspiration behind him becoming a doctor as from a young age, he used to join his father at his clinic. He would observe patients coming in with their problems and leaving with happy faces. He always wanted to be an oncosurgeon, but Dr. Vinod M Kothari (KEM Hospital, Pune) motivated and introduced him to the orthopedics specialty. Dr. Vaidya’s interest grew further towards the orthopedic domain, under the guidance of Padmavibhushan Dr. K. H. Sancheti (Sancheti Institute of Ortho and Rehabilitation).
Career
Dr. Vaidya has an experience of more than 28 years as an internationally acclaimed Orthopedic and Joint Replacement Surgeon. He faced several challenges initially due to lack of awareness and stigma against surgeries as a treatment of option for many orthopedic problems in society. To tackle this, Dr. Vaidya initiated and engaged in many public education and awareness programs. He always believes that Surgeon’s Expertise with Technological Precision can bring great results, for treatment and patient satisfaction. With this vision, he pioneered the robotic joint replacement technology in India. To date, he has performed more than 7000 robotic joint replacement surgeries, with excellent patient outcomes and high satisfaction levels. Having performed more than 20,000 joint replacement surgeries and over 1,00,000 orthopedic surgeries, he is a leading adult reconstructive surgeon. He performs over 3500 surgeries every year, one of the highest numbers in the country.
Dr. Vaidya is also the founder and managing director of Lokmanya Group of Hospitals, a chain of multispecialty hospitals, with 4 branches in Pune, 1 in Kolhapur, well equipped OPDs in Mumbai, and more than 10 extensions in the form of satellite clinics and OPDs at many small and big cities across India.
Social Initiatives
• Initiated the “Golden Hour Project” in 1996 and conceptualized as well as implemented India’s First Comprehensive Trauma System comprising of Awareness (prevention), Early treatment (Golden hour), Efficient ambulance connectivity for bringing a patient to the hospital and prompt treatment, and rehabilitation dedicated Emergency Medical System (EMS), a new technology at that time.
• Designed special dedicated ambulances for trauma patients on highways for immediate availability of medical aid, which has helped save the lives of more than 3,00,000 trauma victims to date.
• Designed MTCCU (Mobile Trauma and Critical Care Unit)
• Supported Safe Life Initiative on Road Safety and Conducted more than 500 preventative and awareness programs in schools, and corporate companies to promote road safety
• Led a team of 16 healthcare professionals to Anjaar, Gujarat in 2001, treated 2132 patients and performed 82 surgeries in a makeshift operation theatre in an MTCCU
Professional Accomplishments • Established the largest chain of Advanced Super speciality Orthopaedic and Multispeciality Hospitals in Western Maharashtra
• Established a Comprehensive Spine Centre in collaboration with Ryhov Hospital, Sweden
