Dr. Yan Katsnelson is a cardiac surgeon, entrepreneur, business owner, and philanthropist. He is the founder and CEO of USA Clinics Group – the parent company of USA Fibroid Centers, USA Vascular Centers, USA Hemorrhoid Centers, USA Prostate Centers, USA Pain Center, USA Longevity Centers, and USA Oncology Centers.
As the CEO of USA Clinics Group, Dr. Katsnelson has expanded minimally invasive options to those in underserved communities across the United States. He also founded the Chicago Heart Institute, an organization dedicated to the advanced treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
Early Life
Katsnelson was born in the former Soviet Union. His mother was a radiologist at a lung surgery center in Russia. The work she did inspired him to pursue medicine as a career at the age of 12.
He joined a heart surgery program upon immigrating to Israel from his home country, which he credits as a significant step in his medical career.
Career
Katsnelson completed a fellowship at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard School of Medicine, in Boston, Massachusetts. He was a faculty cardiac surgeon at the University of Chicago prior to establishing his private practice in cardiovascular and thoracic medicine in the Chicago Northwest suburbs.[1]
He was the first surgeon in the United States to perform the double valve replacement using Biocor tissue valve. His clinical areas of expertise include minimally invasive valve surgery, complex aortic operations, re-operative coronary and valve surgery, and beating-heart (off-pump) bypass surgery.[2] He has been published in noted medical and scientific journals.[3]
Additionally, Yan Katsnelson, along with his late wife, Dr. Flora Katsnelson, established the Fibroid Fighters Foundation.[4] This foundation was created to advance the cause of women’s health and educate the American public about the health, social, and economic damages caused by uterine fibroid disease. The organization hosts various awareness events across the US, featuring spokespeople and experts who discuss fibroids and their impact on women’s health, fostering greater understanding.
Katsnelson was also a creator of PracticeCompass, a software company that aims to facilitate an end-to-end healthcare operating system.[5]
He is a member of the international Save a Child’s Heart organization that provides life-saving cardiac treatment to children from underdeveloped countries. Dr. Katsnelson leads the development of ECHO-assisted technology that enables the screening of thousands of children worldwide.
Katsnelson is also a member of several other medical organizations, including the American Medical Association and the Society of Thoracic Surgery.
During the COVID-19 Pandemic, Katsnelson proposed various solutions to hospital leaders to alleviate the stress of increased patient loads in various boroughs of New York City.
Katsnelson has been involved in expanding USA Clinics Group and supporting various healthcare initiatives. His work includes efforts to broaden access to minimally invasive treatments, address health disparities, and incorporate emerging technologies aimed at improving patient outcomes.
