Thuluva completed his undergraduate education in pharmacy in India before pursuing higher studies in Germany. He earned a master's degree and a PhD in clinical pharmacology, with a focus on pharmacogenetics—the study of how individual genetic differences affect drug response.
Career
After completing his education, Thuluva returned to India and held various roles in leading pharmaceutical companies:
- At Ranbaxy, he worked in medical affairs and conducted clinical trials for Indian submissions.
- At Allergan, he led the development center in Bangalore, focusing on neuro-urological studies.

Contributions to vaccine development
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Thuluva was part of the core leadership team responsible for designing and managing the clinical trials for Biological E’s COVID-19 vaccine candidates. He described the experience as intense and challenging, particularly due to the need to conduct on-site trials during lockdowns.[1]
Research and publications
Thuluva was a lead author on a peer-reviewed clinical study published in 2024 evaluating the safety and immunogenicity of PNEUBEVAX 14™, a 14-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine developed by Biological E. The study focused on healthy Indian infants and demonstrated favorable safety and immune response profiles.<ref>{{cite journal |last1=Thuluva |first1=Subhash |title=Immunogenicity and Safety of Biological E’s 14-valent Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PNEUBEVAX 14™) in Healthy Indian Infants |journal=Human Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics |date=April 2024 |doi=10.1080/21645515.2024.2335844 |pmid=38637211
