Theophilus Nii Kojo Martey (born June 15, 1987), known by his stage name Doupboy Laska, is an anglophone AfroDancehall and Afrobeat musician and entrepreneur from Ghana.[1]
Early life
Doupboy Laska attended Macedonia Methodist School then to Ashley's Business College[2] before the he started his dancing career which led to him sharing stages with prominent African artists. This exposure made him discover his love for music[3]
Personal life
Doupboy Laska was born to a Ghanaian mother Jennifer A. Martey and a Ghanaian English father, Michael M. Martey. He has 1 child. Doupboy Laska has two siblings. The known ones are Theodora Martey and Genevieve Martey.[4]
Career
In 2017, Doupboy Laska[5] began his career as an independent artist in the group Forever Doup Records releasing his first single ‘Nun ah Dem Ready ’. In 2020 Doupboy Laska went on to release four singles and one EP (Ghana Kenkey, Aso We Dweet, Fa Mami and 1 EP (Kwashieman 2 Cape Town) over the years. He has been nominated for numerous awards and won none yet, Africa Choice Awards.[6]
He has collaborated with some African acts including Jupitar, Trigmatic, D-Black, Tulenkey, Big Monii, Mazzinger from Nigeria and more from his homeland Ghana[7]
