Changes to the award

The inaugural Dorothy Hewett Award was launched in partnership with the Copyright Agency and 720 ABC Perth in 2015 in response to the changes to the WA Premier's Book Awards announced in early 2015.[10]

In 2017, UWA Publishing announced that it would change the year of the award to align with the year of announcement.[11]

In 2018, UWA Publishing announced that they will no longer require manuscripts to be connected to Western Australia.[12]
