Domaine Maze Churchill is a French producer of cognac, founded in 1979 by the Maze Churchill family, with its estate and headquarters located in Burie, in the Borderies cru of the Cognac region.[1]
History
Domaine Maze Churchill was established by the Maze family, descendants of Paul Maze,[2] a Franco-British painter and friend of Winston Churchill.[3] In later years, the family became linked by marriage to the Churchills, descendants of Charles Spencer-Churchill, 9th Duke of Marlborough.[4] The estate is currently operated by Jeanne Maze and Robert Churchill, along with their two sons.[5]
Production
The domaine cultivates Ugni Blanc grapes and uses traditional Charentais distillation without lees. The eaux-de-vie are aged in 350-litre French oak barrels stored in humid cellars. The production takes place in the Borderies cru, a region within Cognac known for its distinctive soil and microclimate.
