Djin Sganzerla (born 27 de February, 1977) is an Brazilian director, actress, screenwriter and film producer.
Biography
Djin Sganzerla is a Film director, actress, script writer and film producer. She is one of the Brazilian talents of her generation, receiving many national and international awards as best director, actress and best film. Cinema runs in her blood, she is the daughter of Rogério Sganzerla and Helena Ignez, icons of Brazilian cinema. Rogério Sganzerla made The Red Light Bandit, one of the most important films in Brazilian cinema history, which was nominated by Unesco as Cultural Heritage of Humanity Patrimony.
Djin has started her career as an actress and worked with great important filmmakers in Brazil and received one of the most important Brazilian awards as best actress, APCA's Award as Best Cinema Actress of the Year, was awarded in Portugal as Best Actress, among others.
Djin directed her first feature film Ocean Girl, winning fifteen awards, three of them as Best Feature Film and two as Best Director. The film was released in 2020 in United States and was shown at Porto Femme International Film Festival, Portugal, where it was awarded as Best Film; shown at the 24º Málaga International Film Festival (Spain), 29º San Diego Latino Film Festival, California, 44º São Paulo International Film Festival (Brazil), New York international Women Festival, and many others.
The film was shot in Japan and in Rio de Janeiro. It was released commercially in Brazil and Portugal, licensed for Amazon Prime, open and private TVs and others.
In 2021 Djin was nominated by the Brazilian Cinema Grand Prix one of the five finalists of the year as Best First Feature Film Director and was also nominated by the most important Screenplay Writers Award in Brazil (ABRA – Brazilian Association of Authors Screenwriters) for her screenplay of Ocean Girl.
She directed the short film Before Tomorrow (2022), with André Guerreiro Lopes, it was shown at the 33rd São Paulo International Short Film Festival and at the Beijing International Short Film Festival (China).
In 2001 the production company Mercúrio Produções was found by Helena Ignez, Djin and Sinai Sganzerla. Mercúrio is responsible for the entire cinematographic work of filmmaker Rogério Sganzerla, in addition to the audiovisual productions of its founders, with over thirty films under the belt.
