Dj Phil] (Nigeria) is a prominent Nigerian Disc jockey that is popularly known for his work on Amapiano Essentials as a major contributor to the entertainment industry in the country.[1]
Biography
DJ Phil Born & raised in Lagos, Nigeria, is a disc jockey & record producer. “ DJ Phil” began his music career at a young age. Philip like he is fondly called by family and close friends is a prolific and talented Disc jockey and entertainer. DJ Phil, picked up interests in the beautiful rhythms and melodies he was exposed to from his schooling at a young age. His big break came shortly after he zeroed in on his decision to pursue music professionally in 2016 and with an emerging youth alternative culture that was gradually making its way from the obscure underground circles to the mainstream market. Career
Dj Phil started work when he was young and gained prominence while playing at different clubs and parties around the city. In 2022, Dj Phil released a mixtape called Amapiano Essentials which was exclusively released on Apple Music and was seen as the breaking point for his career. With this mix, he went on to be the first DJ to have a mixtape in the top 10 Apple Music chart in the country. The mixtape reached an all time high number 7 and remained in the top 10 for a couple weeks. Chart rankings on the Apple music Nigeria Top Albums are based on weighted formula incorporating Apple Music audio streams for albums within Nigeria. It is the most popular chart for Nigerian Albums on Apple Music. All of this comes after a successful mixtape release in 2016 called Strange Tales being evidence of hard work and consistency.[2]
There was a rise in the availability and use of dj mixes across Apple Music in Africa in 2021 through to 2022[3] and DJ Phil was one of those at the forefront of benefiting from this surge. His mixtape called Amapiano Essentials became one of the notable releases amongst Disc jockey in the country during the year and it is set to propel his career into a new dimension. Dj Phil is most popular in his city for clubs and events which he regularly plays at and also his contribution to the entertainment scene in the country.[4]
