Dimitri Ginev (*1956 in Varna, Bulgaria-†5 June 2021 in Sophia, Bulgaria) is a professor of history of discourses in cultural studies.

Life

Dimitri Ginev Habilitation at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in 1987 with a thesis on the Hermeneutics aspects of post-empirical philosophy of science. He was throughout his life, starting in 1989, Professor of the History of Discourses in Cultural Studies at Sofia University.

Career

In 1990, Ginev was a visiting Fellow (academic) at the Center for Philosophy of Science, University of Pittsburgh. In the 1990s, Ginev participated in a range of research projects conducted at the University of Marburg, the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf, and the Ruhr University Bochum. Ginev was also a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at Humboldt University of Berlin, a Fulbright Program at the Catholic University of America, and a Senior Fellow of the Zukunftskolleg at the University of Konstanz. In 1992, Ginev founded the international journal Studia Culturologica.

A book collection (or Festschrift) in his honor, Das interpretative Universum, published on the occasion of his 60th birthday was edited by Paula Angelova, Jassen Andreev, and Emil Lensky.[1] Contributors included Nicholas Rescher, Helmuth Vetter, Gunter Scholtz, Dean Komel, Peter Janich, Babette Babich, Jean Grondin, Giovanni Leghissa, among others.

Interests

Ginev's research interests were multifarious, relating to the traditions of hermeneutic Phenomenology (philosophy) and Post-metaphysical philosophy, philosophy of science, including philosophy of social science, and non-analytic philosophy of science, hermeneutic theory of practices and Form of life (philosophy)|forms of life, cognitive existentialism, linguistic and language hermeneutics, and the methodology of double hermeneutics.
