Dillon DeCoteau (born 1969) is a Trinidadian-Canadian traveler who became the first person from Trinidad and Tobago to visit all 193 United Nations (UN) countries.[1][2][3][4][5][6] His travels have been documented and verified by the global online travel authority NomadMania, which has included him in their list of the few individuals worldwide who have visited all 193 UN countries.[6]

Early Life and Career

DeCoteau grew up in Trinidad and Tobago before emigrating to Canada at the age of 18.[1][3][4][5] He has an educational background in actuarial science, economics and statistics.[1] Since 2003, he has been employed in the pension regulatory sector by the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario, a public service agency of the Ontario Ministry of Finance, Canada.[5]

Travel

In 2010, after accumulating a large amount of airline reward miles, DeCoteau embarked on a six-country business class trip to Hong Kong, Thailand, China, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. He enjoyed the experience so much, that before it was finished, he started planning and booking his next 10-country adventure. That soon grew into several multi-country trips every year. As the list of destinations kept expanding, DeCoteau eventually challenged himself to visit every country in the world. At that time there were only a handful of people in the world who had accomplished this, and he felt inspired to become one of them.[1][3][4][5]

By 2017, DeCoteau had visited over 100 UN countries. Over a period of 15 years, despite working full-time, he visited over 200 countries and territories. He was able to achieve this using airline reward miles for his flights.[1][2][5] The final UN country he visited in April 2025, was Sudan.[2][3][4][5][6]

DeCoteau shares photos and stories from his travels on social media as well as during media interviews. He recounts unexpected challenges he faced during his travels, as well as the positive experiences in countries where people are discouraged from visiting due to them being considered as dangerous.[1][3][4][5]

He has said that his next travel goal is to visit all non-UN countries and territories as well as revisit some of his favourite countries to gain a fuller appreciation of everything they have to offer.[1][5] He hopes his story can inspire other individuals to travel and see the world.[1][5]
