Dietrich Maerz (born 16. August 1953 ) is an author and researcher on the field of German medals and decorations with master degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration. He has authored several books on the topic and has co-authored some more with others authors. He also publishes a quarterly magazine The International Militaria Collector with his company B&D Publishing LLC. His well-researched articles have been published in several magazines, among them the England-based Iron Cross, the Italian Uniformi, and the German Orden und Ehrenzeichen. In 2022 he was awarded the Von Hessenthal Prize for Phaleristic[1] for exceptional journalistic work on the field of historic medals, and before that in 2021 the Silver Medal of Merit. He is considered the subject matter expert for the Order of the Iron Cross.
