Devdas Menon is an Indian civil engineer and academic, currently serving as an Institute Chair Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras).[1] [2]His research focuses on structural engineering, reinforced concrete design, and sustainability in building systems.[3][4]
Education and Early Career
Devdas Menon completed his B.Tech in Civil Engineering and Ph.D. from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras.[5] Prior to his academic career, he worked in a structural design consultancy in Delhi during the early 1980s. He also has an M.Sc. (by research) from the University of Calicut.[5]
Academic Career
Menon joined the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Madras in 1998 and continued serving as a professor till 2004. As of 2025, he holds the position of Chair Professor of the Civil Engineering Department.[6][7]His work primarily focuses on the design of reinforced concrete structures, including the analysis of towers, chimneys, and bridges.[8][9] His research area also extends to sustainable building systems, with a focus on the use of prefabricated components.[10]
