Derrick Abaitey (born June 15, 1990) is a Ghanaian entrepreneur, author[1], podcast host, co-founder of Aktiv Group, and musician. He is best known as the host of the Konnected Minds Podcast, where he interviews African creatives, entrepreneurs, and changemakers with a focus on discipline, mindset, and personal development.[2][3][4][5]
Early life and Education
Abaitey was born in Akim Soabe, a suburb of Akim Oda in the Eastern Region of Ghana. He spent his early years with his mother and stepfather, a farmer and drugstore owner, while his biological father worked in London. He later moved to East London to live with his father, an experience that influenced his worldview and work ethic.[6]
He attended Newham Sixth Form College from 2007 to 2009. Although he trained and became a licensed pharmacist at the University of Kent, his early passion for media, music, and storytelling led him to pursue various entrepreneurial and creative ventures. He later earned a Master's degree in Independent Prescribing from Anglia Ruskin University.[7]
Music Career
Abaitey’s musical journey began in boarding school, where he developed an interest in music. In 2005, he moved to the UK, where he collaborated with producers and artists to fine-tune his craft. He co-founded the urban music group "Vibe Squad." Within months, they released their debut album *Boo Yi*.[8]
The group gained traction for their fusion of Afrobeat with UK urban sounds, performing at events such as "Ghana In The Park" in 2009. Following this, Abaitey began a solo career under the name DeeVS. His single *Shine* (2012) became an inspirational anthem for resilience and self-belief.[9] He later released "Yebeko" featuring Bisa Kdei.[10]
Konnected Minds Podcast
Abaitey is the host of the Konnected Minds Podcast, a leading African podcast focused on mindset, entrepreneurship, and personal transformation.[11][12][13][14]
