Der Farang (farang is Thai for stranger) is a German-language newspaper in Thailand. The newspaper is one of the largest German-language newspapers in Asia and with about 25.000 copies the largest in Thailand. It was founded in 1993 and has its headquartered in Pattaya.
History
Der Farang was established in 1993 by Swiss entrepreneur Stefan Matter. In 2006, the newspaper was acquired by the Swiss couple Bussaba and Martin Rüegsegger. Der Farang is published 26 times a year in print. However, the online version is updated daily and is refreshed multiple times a day. The printed circulation is approximately 25,000 copies. The newspaper is often used as a source by major European newspapers for Asian and particularly Thai topics.[1]
In addition to the headquarters in Pattaya, there are offices in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, Phuket, and Hua Hin. The target audience of the newspaper primarily consists of the numerous Europeans living in the country, but the newspaper is also appreciated by the many visitors from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands.[2][3]
