Dennis Edward Richmond, Jr. (born February 11, 1995) is an American author, genealogist, freelance journalist. Richmond is the founder of the New York-New Jersey HBCU Initiative. He released his book, He Spoke at My School: An Educational Journey in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. A strong advocate for education, Richmond founded the Dennis E. Richmond, Jr. Scholarship For Black Excellence.

Early life and education

Richmond was born in Yonkers|Yonkers, New York, on February 11, 1995, to Dennis Richmond, Sr., a former auto parts driver who served in the U.S Army, and Hortena Richmond (nee Dingle).[1]

He was raised in Yonkers and is a graduate of Riverside High School.[2]

He earned a bachelor's degree in African and African American Studies from Claflin University, minoring in Education and he earned a master's degree in Education from Sarah Lawrence College.[3]

Career

Richmond began searching for his family's roots in March of 2008.

In 2020, he began to freelance for newspapers across New York. His articles have appeared in The New York Post, Black Westchester Magazine, and Yonkers Rising.

His July 2020 Mew York Post article about HBCUs was shared hundreds of times on social media from members of the HBCU community.

His November 2020 New York Post article about Black Lives Matter and the police [4].
