Dileep Eswar (born September 30, 1993), known professionally as Del Eswar, is an American actor, producer, and writer. He is best known for his roles as Barrington Tran in the upcoming cyberpunk thriller, The Dresden Sun and as Feroz Al-Fulani in the indie comedy Sit Down Stand Up, which he also produced.
Early and personal life
Eswar was born to an Hebbar Iyengar family in Summit, New Jersey. His father is from Bangalore, and his mother is from New Delhi. He has one younger brother, who is a software engineer at DocuSign. After relocating from New Jersey to California, and moving around the San Francisco Bay Area, the family moved to Tokyo where Eswar completed fourth grade at The American School in Japan. The family then decided to return to the United States with a brief stop in London, eventually settling in Pleasanton, California. Eswar attended Foothill High School, and subsequently obtained a degree in Mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley. While there, he studied abroad in London.
After college, he moved to New York to work in Investment Banking at Goldman Sachs.[1] He then privately invested in a number of small ventures before joining one of his portfolio companies and moving to Europe. He eventually moved back to New York to work on another startup company.
Eswar currently resides in Playa Vista, California and is an avid Pickleball player.[2]
Career
Eswar uses a nickname he was given in high school as his stage name. While living and working in New York, Eswar took an acting class and subsequently decided to move to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career.[3] When asked what made him decide to make such a career change, he has said "Entourage," referring to the HBO series of the same name. Eswar started his acting career doing some extra work and appearing in advertisements for PayTM and eHarmony. He was cast in the Los Angeles revival of Terence McNally's A Perfect Ganesh[4] and performed eight roles,[5] amounting to fourteen costume changes.[6]
In 2022, Eswar expanded into producing with three projects, under his production company, First Law Motion Pictures. He also starred in one of them, Sit Down Stand Up, as the quirky, pretending-to-be-British rising stand-up comedian Feroz Al-Fulani. The film took inspiration from Don's Plum, and was made without a script, with all of the dialogue and jokes being improvised on set based on minimal story structure and direction. That same year, he was cast as Barrington Tran in the cyberpunk thriller The Dresden Sun, opposite Christina Ricci, Steven Ogg, and Linus Roache.
In 2023, Eswar co-hosted the first all-South-Asian stand-up comedy show in the history of the Sundance Film Festival.[7] The show was produced Page One Productions, which he co-owns, and held at the High West Distillery in Park City, Utah, and sold out in record time. It was headlined by Hari Kondabolu and featured performances by Rajiv Satyal, Janesh Rahlan, and Zahra Ali.[8]
