Debesh Goswami (born 1965) is a Franco-Indian contemporary artist whose work includes sculpture, installation, and performance. He has exhibited at international venues including the Liverpool Biennial, the Florence Biennale, and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art. His works are held in collections such as the Bibliothèque Kandinsky at the Centre Pompidou.[1]

Early life and education

Goswami was born in Kolkata in 1965. He studied sculpture at Rabindra Bharati University beginning in 1987. In 1995, he received a French Government Scholarship for Young Artists and moved to France. He later completed a doctorate at the University of Rennes 2 in 2001, with a thesis on casting processes in contemporary sculpture.[2]

Career

From 1996 to 2004, Goswami presented solo exhibitions at Galerie du Haut Pavé in Paris.[3] In 2007, he was featured in the group exhibition India: Art contemporain indien at Galerie Hélène Lamarque, alongside artists including Anish Kapoor.[4]

Artistic themes

  • Art Omi, New York[12]

His works are part of institutional and private collections, including the Centre Pompidou’s Bibliothèque Kandinsky.[13] In 2024, his installation *Life: A Vital Process* (2003–2015) was sold at auction through Finarte Milano.[14]
