Debbie Sun (born February 6, 1972) is an artist and textile designer from Saint Croix in the United States Virgin Islands. She received her degree in architecture from University of California, Berkeley, and her love of architecture is apparent in many pieces of her artwork. She is most well known as the designer of the U.S. Virgin Islands' madras,[1] and she is known for her bright, tropical designs inspired by both Caribbean nature and architecture.

Sun attended the Metàfora Studio Arts Program in Barcelona, Spain, where she took in the architecture of Antoni Gaudí, whose buildings have inspired several of her designs. After living in Spain, she returned to her home of Saint Croix where she started her textile design studio. She designs textiles that become yoga leggings, rash guards, hand fans, lamp shades, and pillows. She also does larger fabric installations, such as a long piece of fabric she designed for decoration in the lobby of the Hotel Caravelle in Saint Croix, where her fabrics also adorn pillows and bed runners.[2]

In June 2021, Governor Albert Bryan signed legislation making Sun's madras design the official madras of the U.S. Virgin Islands.[3] In July 2021, the U.S. Virgin Islands Olympic swimmers wore scarves with the madras in the opening ceremonies of the Olympics.[4]
