Davide Scarabelli (Pavullo nel Frignano, 22 March 1942), is an Italian sculptor who was born into a large family in Pavullo nel Frignano (Modena).

From the age of thirteen he began to paint using recycled materials, such as jute bags, cartons, wooden planks.

In 1960, at the age of eighteen, he held his first personal exhibition in Modena, dedicating himself entirely to sculpture in 1964.

In 1970 he graduated in sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna and in the same year his first public monumental work Lo Specchio was erected in Soliera di Modena.

Participates by invitation in the major exhibitions in Italy: International Biennial Il Fiorino in Florence.[1], where he wins the second prize, Francesca da Rimini national competition with the work La guilt, second prize, Quadrennial of art in Rome[2], Padua Biennale of bronze , Levante Fair in Bari.

In 1976 he published the chalcographic volume Vis-à-vis which was exhibited at the world art book fair in San Francisco and in other American cities.[3]

Among the awards received, the mention in the Bolaffi catalog for sculpture and the Golden Spider for art conferred by Unicef[4][5]

He creates sets for the municipal theater in Florence and for the Farnese theater in Parma with Luciano Damiani, the director Luigi Squarzina and the conductor Zubin Mehta.

From 1996 to 1998 he created the cultural event Protagonista by hosting in his home-studio Cà Baldassarre, artists and authors including: Valerio Massimo Manfredi, Tullio de Piscopo, Karl Potter, Loriano Machiavelli, Nino Migliori, Giorgio Lotti, Alberto Bertoni, Guido DeMaria, Giuseppe Pederiali.[6]

In 1993 he was invited to the IV International Biennial of Sculpture in Montecarlo.[7]

The following year he exhibited at the first International Biennial of Amsterdam.

From 1997 to 2022 he directed the Contemporary Art Gallery of Palazzo Ducale in Pavullo nel Frignano (Modena)[8]

In 2007 he created the monumental work A Est di Maranello located on the Nuova Estense provincial road.

In 2009 the church of the emigrant in Groppo di Riolunato (Modena) was inaugurated. He participated in the design and created the altar, the crucifix, the ambo and the tabernacle.

In 2013 he was invited to the international sculpture biennial at the Racconigi castle (Turin) with the monumental steel sculpture Joy of living.

He dedicated some works to the Mummies of Roccapelago, after their surprising discovery.

In 2017, with the work Incontro, he participated in the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of one of the Parole sui muri event

which took place in 1967 when internationally renowned artists converge in Fiumalbo who create and exhibit their works along the streets and squares of the town.

His works are part of private collections, public museums in Italy and abroad, schools, squares, castles, cemeteries and parks.

The art critics Enrico Crispolti, Luigi Lambertini, Andrea del Guercio, Nicola Micieli, Franco Solmi, Giuseppe Marchiori and others have written about him.
