David Steven Simon is an American writer-producer who is best known for The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Mad About You, Full House, The Wayans Brothers, Sister, Sister, My Two Dads, Charles in Charge, The Royal Family, Kirk, Everything's Relative, Hearts Afire, Together We Stand, Fernwood Tonight and There's Johnny.
Simon began his career as a New York-based publicist for United Artists where he helped launch three Academy Award-winning films: Rocky 1, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest and Network, plus Carrie, That's Entertainment Part 2, James Bond films, Woody Allen films, and The Return of the Pink Panther. He appeared as The Pink Panther in the Annual Macy Thanksgiving Day Parade, cutting the ribbon and riding on the Cootie float.
He has been under exclusive contract with Walt Disney Studios, Universal Studios, and Columbia. He co-wrote the story for the feature film In The Mood with Robert Kosberg, which was directed by Phil Alden Robinson for Lorimar Films. Simon also wrote the story for the Disney TV film "17 Again."
In television, he rose up the ranks beginning with Charles In Charge which was followed by Together We Stand, My Two Dads, Full House, and The Royal Family. He was a co-executive producer of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and executive producer of Hearts Afire and Sister, Sister. He co-created The Wayans Brothers, was a consulating producer on Mad About You and co-created the series There's Johnny with actor-writer Paul Reiser which played on Hulu and Peacock in 2016. He co-wrote the NBC pilot Viki, for producer Fred Silverman.
Simon wrote and directed the comedy short Dante and Beatrice, which won Tracey Brooks Swope Avildsen a Best Actress award at the annual SOFI Awards in New York City and the comedy short That's News To Me starring Caroline Rhea, Jay Potter, and Chip Zien which appeared in festivals all over the world.
Simon wrote original comedy material for Smokey Robinson who hosted The Rythym and Blues Foundation Awards Dinner for two consecutive years.
He was a regular contributor to Huffington Post and also appeared as a television commentator on New York PBS radio station WFUV.
His play Grave Doubts, A play about long buried secrets, had its premiere at Theater Harrisberg in 2017.
