David Seekola (born 10 October 1993) is a South African Indian composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist. His compositions use a combination of elements from western classical, jazz and electronic music.

Life and career

David was born in Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa and later moved to Gauteng (2010). He started his music career as a child studying classical violin through private teachers, piano when he was 18 and guitar at 22. After matric he graduated from the Tshwane University of Technology (BMus) specializing in "jazz and popular music" (2016).

After his studies he worked full-time at a mega church as music director managing a team of 40+ musicians. The role included education, music editing, arranging and preparation for rehearsals and live performances every week. After 3 years of working for the organisation David began his freelance career as a music composer and producer (August 2019).

His earliest works included music composition for LA based music library "Fine Tune Music" who supplies music to shows such as America's Got Talent, The Bachelor etc. He also fulfilled commissions by Refugee Films for a short film "Mary's Soul Ties" and released multiple albums as part of his early music catalogue.

In 2020, David recorded and produced music for artists "Nopi" (Unopachido Mubaiwa), Turbulence (EP), and "Naye Ayla" (IDKY). He also released 2 albums of his own, Metaphors and Similes in the same year.

His earlier career includes performing at the New Delhi Bible Fellowship Christmas program in New Delhi, India (2013). He appeared in the music "Siyabonga" by South African gospel singer Loyiso Bala (2015) and performed at the Gospel Skouspel event with Neville D, Elvis Blue among other artists in the same year. In October 2017 David was commissioned by Squire Nododile (Producer) to compose, arrange and record music (8 piece string ensemble) for an inauguration event for the King of Kwazulu-Natal held at Melrose Arch, Rosebank. Aside from David's pop music composition, string writing and film music, he also works with UK classical composer, Sarah Jo Wood as an orchestrator and co-producer (2019-present).

Personal Life

Seekola was introduced to the violin when he was 6 years old by world-renowned Canadian violinist Trevor Dick during his tour of Durban at that time. His first formal lesson was at 8 years. His first taste of jazz and the “real stage” was at the age of 10, performing with Melvin Peters who is a world-acclaimed South African pianist and music lecturer at UKZN. David is currently married and resides in South Africa hoping to pursue his dream as an A-list music composer.
