David Hughes is an American pastor, televangelist,[1][2] and public keynote speaker.[3] He is the senior pastor of the Church by The Glades,[4] a Baptist multi-cultural megachurch located in South Florida, where Hughes has served since 1998.[5][6]

Biography

David Hughes was born in Charleston, West Virginia. When he was 3 years old, his family moved to Broward County, Florida.[7] Hughes graduated from Baylor University with a B.A degree in religion. He then attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he received an M.A degree in theology.

Pastorate

David Hughes was a minister of the Flamingo Road Church for 3 years before he joined Church by the Glades (formerly Coral Baptist) in 1998.[5] During his ministry, the small church has significantly increased its weekly attendance to more than 9000 memebers,[8] by 2009.[5] The church has been extensively involved in community activity including educational classes,[9] charities, donations and volunteer work.[10][11][12] David Hughes has been a harsh critic of ongoing violence, speaking publicly against mass shootings and calling for national unity.[13][14][15][16]

Community involvement

Pastor David Hughes was quick to adapt church services during Covid-19 quarantine by following Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines with regard to public safety and health concerns. Beginning in March, 2020, CBG church activities were virtual, with most religious observances and notable Christian events, including Easter Holiday, being aired via television, radio[17] [2] and other media channels.[1][18][19]

Personal life

David Hughes is married to Lisa Hughes. They have 3 children: Charlie, Victoria and Zane.[20]
