David Catalán is a Spanish fashion designer, born on September 28, 1989, in Alfaro, La Rioja, Spain.[1] He is known for his work in menswear and is based in Oporto, Portugal.

Early Life and Education

David Catalán studied interior design at the School of Arts in Corella, La Rioja, Spain. He received his degree in Interior Design before pursuing further education in fashion and clothing design.[2] His academic journey included studies at the School of Design of La Rioja - University of La Rioja in Logroño, Spain, and the Superior School of Arts and Design in Matosinhos, Oporto (ESAD). During his studies, he worked under the guidance of fashion designer Maria Gambina.[2]

Career

In 2013, Catalán founded his own fashion brand.[3] He first gained recognition in the fashion industry when he won the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Talent Award at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Madrid[4] This award marked the beginning of his professional career in fashion design.

Catalán's design style is characterized by sporty silhouettes[3] and the use of materials like denim. He is noted for his commitment to local production and craftsmanship, with all his creations being made in Portugal.[3] His work has been showcased at various fashion events, including Portugal Fashion,[5] ModaLisboa - Lisbon Fashion Week,[6] and Milan Fashion Week[7]

Throughout his career, Catalán has been involved in various collaborative projects in the fashion industry. He participated in The Future of Fashion Program, a joint initiative by Not Just a Label and the Who's Next trade show.[8]Additionally, his designs were featured in The Latest Fashion Buzz at Pitti Uomo 91, an event supported by Mini and covered by L'Uomo Vogue and GQ Italy[8]

In 2023, Catalán was invited to design staff uniforms for the Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel.[9] The collection, named "Ushuaïa by Mercedes-Benz Fashion Talent David Catalán," integrates practical elements maintaining a focus on sustainability.[9]
