David Capablanca (born April 24, 1984) is an American entrepreneur and stock trader known for his expertise in short-selling stocks.[1] He founded Friendly Bear University and hosts the "Friendly Bear Podcast," where he interviews prominent figures in the global trading community.[2][3][4]

Capablanca is renowned as a "master trader" and boasts a verified 7-figure trading status with a 90% win ratio.[5] He mentors others in short-selling, highlighting the significance of mindset mastery and trading skills for success. His strategy relies on meticulously following specific criteria and proven methods, much like a pilot uses a preflight checklist, ensuring each trade is executed with unwavering accuracy and precision, effectively safeguarding them against the risks posed by short squeezes.[6]

Early life and education

David Capablanca, born and raised in Miami, FL, to a Cuban mother and Persian father, went from career architect to verified 7-figure trader, despite overcoming a life-altering brain tumor while pursuing a Masters in Architecture at UCLA. Under the guidance of renowned architect Thom Mayne, he made significant contributions to the transformative Haiti Now Project, showcasing his dedication and passion for positively impacting society.

Combining his architecture skills such as pattern recognition, puzzle solving, and creative thinking with his understanding of manipulation in the markets, David began short selling, and after having initial success in short-selling small-cap stocks in 2020, he relocated to San Juan, Puerto Rico to further his learning under some of the best traders in the world. Immersed in a community of experienced professionals and guided by renowned traders, he honed his skills and expanded his market knowledge.[7][8]

Career

David Capablanca started his career as an architect, receiving his Masters degree from UCLA where he studied under the Pritzker Prize-winning architect Thom Mayne. Despite his experience and skill in architecture, Capablanca pivoted in his thirties from architecture to stock trading as a solution to his student loan debt.[9][10][11][12][13]

Signing up for trading and short-selling courses, Capablanca applied his architectural background to the market, using his creative and analytical mind to execute trades successfully.[14][15] Switching over to short-selling paid off, especially in 2020, where he capitalized from shorting biotech and pharmaceutical stocks amid the COVID-19 surge. Taking his expertise to Puerto Rico, he collaborated with renowned short report firms, such as White Diamond Research.[16][17]

The following year, armed with knowledge and determination, Capablanca kicked off the 'Friendly Bear Podcast' in May 2021, diving into the world of trading, short-selling, and exposing shady companies through YouTube short reports. His podcast connections opened doors to global trading conferences.[18] He also launched Friendly Bear University to provide traders with the tools, knowledge, and resources they need to become profitable and successful in the markets.[19][20][21][22][23]
