Datuk Abd Hadi bin A. Rashid (born 1 January 1955) joined the Royal Malaysian Navy on 5 January 1974 and was commissioned on 1 May 1976. He has spent a substantial time of his career at sea, serving in wide variety of ships, including command of KD LEMBING (Patrol Craft), KD KINABALU (Mine Counter Measure Vessel) and KD LAKSAMANA TUN ABDUL JAMIL (Corvette).

He held several appointments in the Ministry of Defence and the National Security Council (NSC), Prime Minister Department. He was involved in the setting-up of the Maritime Enforcement Coordinating Centre (MECC) during his tour of duty at the NSC. During his tenure in Ministry of Defence, he was a Naval Assistant to the Deputy Chief of Navy, Staff Officer at the Naval Intelligence, Staff Officer Force Structure of Defence Planning Division at Malaysian Armed Forces Headquarters and Director of Naval Intelligence.

Then, he moved back to serve the NSC as the Director of MECC in Lumut. This was followed by his appointment as the Commandant of the Malaysian Armed Forces Defence College. He was made the Commander Naval Region 1 before taking up the position as the Assistant Chief of Staff Defence Operations and Training[1], Malaysian Armed Forces Headquarters. After his distinguished service, he was promoted to Vice Admiral[2] and later appointed as Fleet Commander from 1 March 2012 until 14 July 2014.

He attended several local and oversea courses including Mine Warfare Course, Anti-Submarine Warfare Course, Maritime Law Enforcement Course and Intelligence Course in USA, Staff Course in Australia and joined ‘The Third United Regional Conference on Deterrence Use of Force and Operational Readiness’ in Indonesia. Academically, he had obtained a Diploma in Strategic and Security Studies from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and received his Master Degree in Security and Policy Analysis Studies from the same university. His subject matter expert is on Malaysia’s Maritime Enforcement on Piracy Issues in the Straits of Malacca. Also, he was appointed as the Commander of Malaysia’s Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Operations in Aceh during tsunami, the first international team to land in Aceh, Indonesia.

In recognition of this services, Datuk Abd Hadi bin A.Rashid was awarded the Panglima Jasa Negara, an award which carries the title Datuk, Panglima Setia Angkatan Tentera, Pahlawan Angkatan Tentera, Johan Mangku Negara,[3] and Johan Setia Mahkota [4] by His Majesty, Yang DiPertuan Agong, the King of Malaysia. He has been bestowed the Darjah Dato’ Setia Negeri Sembilan by His Majesty, the Yang DiPertuan Besar Negeri Sembilan, an award which carries the title Dato’.

Datuk Abd Hadi bin A.Rashid is married to Datin Fatimah Ishak, a business woman, and they have a daughter, Ili Dayana and a son Danail Hadri.
