Club Career
McGuinness was born in Mullingar and grew up in Athlone, where he attended Cloonakilla N.S. and played youth football for St. Joseph's FC. While he was Coláiste Chiaráin Athlone, McGuinness signed for Belvedere F.C. in Dublin. In 2019, he moved to St. Patrick's Athletic where he signed a professional contract. McGuinness made his professional debut on November 16, 2019[1], in St. Patrick's Athletic's 4-0 win against Athlone Town F.C. in the Leinster Senior Cup final.[2]
On 1 February 2020, McGuinness signed for Shamrock Rovers F.C. on a free transfer. He made his debut for their reserve team, Shamrock Rovers F.C. II on March 6, in a 1-0 loss to Cabinteely F.C.|Cabinteely in the League of Ireland First Division[3]. As of September 2023, McGuinness is suspended from the League of Ireland First Division after receiving a Second yellow|second yellow card against Cobh Ramblers F.C. on October 27, 2020.[4]
On July 7 2022, McGuinness joined Stoke City F.C. for an undisclosed fee[5],less than a month after completing his Leaving Certificate.The next month, he made his debut for Stoke City Under-21s on August 15 against Newcastle United Under-21s in the Premier League 2.
