Danil Khasanshin (born August 1983) is a Tatar entrepreneur and technology executive based in the United Kingdom. He is best known as the co-founder and chief executive officer of Laoshi, a platform for Chinese language learning, and as co-founder of Amazy, an educational technology company.[1] Khasanshin previously led the startup media outlet Komitet and has contributed to the development of digital media and EdTech sectors in Russia and internationally.
Early life and education
Khasanshin was born in Udachny, a mining town in the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), Russia.[2] He is of Tatar ethnicity and a native Tatar speaker. He moved to Kazan to pursue higher education and graduated from Kazan State University with a bachelor's degree in programming technologies.[1]
Career
At age 24, Khasanshin sold the entertainment blog Webpark.ru, which had 70,000 daily active users, to Independent Media Sanoma Magazines (Sanoma) after three years of development.[3] He then held management and digital leadership roles at companies including Sanoma Magazines and Hearst Shkulev Media.
From 2016 to 2020, Khasanshin served as chief executive officer of Komitet, a startup-focused media outlet in the CIS region.[4]
In 2021, Khasanshin co-founded Laoshi, an educational platform focused on Mandarin Chinese language learning. Laoshi raised a $570,000 angel round for its language-learning app targeted at Chinese tutors and students, as featured in TechCrunch.[5] In 2025, TechCrunch reported a 216% spike in US Mandarin learners, a trend mirrored by Laoshi’s user growth.[6] He became CEO in October 2023.[7] Laoshi received the Red Dot Design Award in 2021 for brands and communication design,[8] and has been recognized for its innovative approach to language learning.[9]
Khasanshin is also a co-founder and director of Amazy Education Limited, an EdTech startup incorporated in the UK in 2020.[10] Amazy’s approach to empowering educators and leveraging AI for content creation was discussed by co-founder Kate Bodrova on the TESOL Pop podcast.[11] In 2024, Amazy.uk was named the Best EdTech Startup in Europe at the EdTechX Awards, an event recognizing leading companies in the digitisation of education.[12][13] By the end of 2024, Amazy.uk supported over 12,000 active content creators and had expanded its user base to include schools and B2B clients.[14]
Personal life
Khasanshin is married to Ekaterina Bodrova (Kate Bodrova), who is also a co-founder and CEO of Amazy.[10] The couple resides in the United Kingdom.
Outside of his professional career, Khasanshin is an avid ultra runner and has completed the Comrades Marathon in South Africa.[15] He is fluent in Tatar and Russian, and has professional proficiency in English.
