Daniel Jerrett is an economist and is the Chief Investment Officer of Stategy Capital LP, a global alternative investment management firm based in Denver, Colorado. He is a leading contributor to the research of Commodity super cycles, which has regained attention since 2020.[1]

Early Research

In 2008, John T. Cuddington, Coulter Professor of Mineral Economics and Daniel Jerrett, Ph.D candidate at the Colorado School of Mines co-authored “Super Cycles in Real Metals Prices?”[2]. This paper searches for evidence of super cycles in metal prices by using band-pass filters to extract particular cyclical components from Time series. The research identified evidence of three super cycles in the past 150 years, and indicated that at the time of writing a fourth super cycle was underway. “Super Cycles in Real Metal Prices?” has been cited and reference by a wide range of governmental and non-governmental organizations around the globe, including the International Monetary Fund [3], the Federal Reserve Bank[4], the World Bank Group[5], the National Bureau of Economic Research[6], the Bank of Canada[7], and the United Nations[8].

Career

In 2021, Daniel Jerrett, Ph.D updated his research of commodity super cycles in the J.P. Morgan Center for Commodities Global Commodities Applied Research Digest (GCARD) article “How Super is the Commodity Center.”[9]

In February 2021, MarketWatch reported on the possibility of a new commodities supercycle, quoting Jerrett of the likelihood of early-stage development.[10]

In March 2021, the Wall Street Journal also reported on the possibility that commodities are in the early stages of a supercycle. Jerrett’s research paper from 2008 and well as his updated paper from 2021 were cited for historical charts and Jerrett is quoted for his views on the potential for a super cycle.[11]

In April 2021, the World Bank Group in their summary of empirical research on metal price shocks, cited Daniel Jerrett, PhD for his research studies from 2008 (co-authored with Cuddington) and his 2021 study “How Super is the Commodity Price Cycle?” in their April 2021 Outlook Report.[12]

In July 2021, the Global Commodities Applied Research Digest published Daniel Jerrett’s “How Super is the Commodity Cycle?” paper.[13]

Daniel Jerrett, Ph.D is a professor of economics at the University of Colorado Denver and a member of the Advisory Council at the University of Colorado Denver Business School J.P. Morgan Center for Commodities.
