Daniel James (born 1981) is a British author and journalist. His first novel, The Unauthorised Biography of Ezra Maas was published in 2018. The book is a biography of artist Ezra Maas – shortlisted for The Guardian’s Not The Booker Prize in 2019.[1]

James, a former newspaper journalist, was hired to a write the book after receiving a late night phone-call by an anonymous client.[2] His biography promised to reveal the truth about Maas’s disappearance, which is considered to be ‘one of the biggest mysteries in contemporary art’.[3] Although the book was originally written in 2012, it was opposed by the artist's estate – The Maas Foundation – and its publication was delayed until 2018.

James is working on a new and definitive edition of The Unauthorised Biography of Ezra Maas for release in 2021.
