Dan Berlinka is a bafta-winning television writer, director, and producer, best known for his work on the children's online interactive drama Dixi, the CBBC sitcom Lagging and co-creating teen thriller The A List.
Early Life
Dan Berlinka grew up in London and studied English at the University of Cambridge, before going on to do an MA in Cinema Studies at NYU Tisch School of the Arts[1]
Career
Berlinka's career began at the WWE in 1995 where he worked as an associate producer for three years[2]. After moving back to the UK, he worked at Sky and then Disney, before forming a production company called Dandy Productions.[3]. Dandy Productions won a BAFTA for best Children's animation in 2004 for their series "Brush Head".[4] Berlinka continued in childrens television, writing on shows like Shaun The Sheep, Thunderbirds Are Go, and 4 O'Clock Club.[5] In 2014 Berlinka won his second BAFTA in the Children's Interactive category for Dixi, a drama he created for CBBC Online.[6]
Berlinka wrote on long running soaps Hollyoaks: Later, and Casualty. In 2018 Dan teamed up with Dixi Collaborator Nina Metivier to create and co-write The A List, which was released on the BBC iPlayer on 25 October 2018. The series moved to Netflix for its second season, with Berlinka and Metivier returning to co-write and executive produce[7]. Berlinka developed Simon_Mayo|Simon Mayo's novel Itch. The series aired on ABC Me[8]. The second season aired in 2021, with Berlinka serving as script consultant and writing the first episode[9]. In 2020 Berlinka developed Rhyme Time Town for Dreamworks & Netflix[10]. In 2021 Berlinka created the CBBC children's comedy Lagging, a show about 12 year old gamers[11]
Directorial Work
As a director, Berlinka has directed the entirety of Dixi, and 6 episodes of The A List[12], including both season finales.
