Damian Corless is an Irish author, playwright and scriptwriter. He has penned more than a dozen volumes on Irish history and culture.[1] Corless was MTV's first Irish correspondent.[2] He was editor of the culture guide In Dublin[3] before becoming managing editor of the monthly current affairs magazine Magill.[4]He has written TV comedy for the BBC's Big Train starring Simon Pegg and Catherine Tate [5]

From 2001 to 2019, he was a columnist and feature writer with Independent News & Media, initially with the Herald before moving to the Irish Independent where his reporting informed debate in public forums and the Irish Parliament.[6] The author of a study of Ireland's climate since the first settlers arrived,[citation needed] he has delivered guest talks on the weather including to Roscommon's annual Percy French Festival,[7] Irish Meteorological Society, National Library 23/5/2012 [8] and the annual Bloom Horticultural Festival.[9]

His book on the history of Ireland's "love affair with confectionary", You'll Ruin Your Dinner, provided source material for a collaboration between the National College Of Art & Design's MA course in Design History and Material Culture and The Little Museum of Dublin, which yielded an exhibition and accompanying publication entitled The Secret Lives Of Objects - Hidden Histories Of Dublin Design.[10] In his role as a cultural historian,Corless appeared as a commentator in each instalment of RTE1's 2022 history TV series "The Way We Were".[11] Corless has contributed to national radio programs on a number of historical and cultural matters.[12] [13]

His stage comedy 'Death Wish '16 - The GPO' debuted at the Kilkenny Cat Laughs Festival in 2015 with Ardal O'Hanlon as Padraig Pearse and Fred MacAuley as James Connolly.[14] In 2019, Corless was shortlisted for an An Post Book Of The Year Award, alongside singer Christy Dignam, for his work on Dignam's bestselling memoir "My Crazy World" published by Simon & Schuster.[15]
