Dallas County is the second-most populated county in the state of Texas, which is located in the United States. The county has a population of 2,613,539 people as of the 2020 United States Census, making it the ninth-most populated county in the nation.

Texas third-largest metropolis and the ninth-largest city in the United States, Dallas, serves as the county's administrative centre. The county was established in 1846 and may have been named for George Mifflin Dallas, the 11th Vice President of the United States under President James K. Polk, who served as the county's first mayor.

Dallas County is a part of the Dallas-Arlington-Fort Worth metropolitan statistical region (sometimes known as the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex), which includes the cities of Arlington and Fort Worth.

The geographic boundaries between cities and between surrounding counties have become more confused as a result of the county's expansion.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 909 square miles (2,350 km2), of which 873 square miles (2,260 km2) is land and 36 square miles (93 km2) (4.0 percent) is water.
