The decision "On the Opening of the Dagestan Agro-Pedagogical Institute" was approved by the Council of People's Commissars of the Dagestan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic on October 8, 1931. The momentous occasion of the 14th anniversary of the October Revolution served as the inspiration for the grand launch of the institution. The Pedagogical Institute started offering lessons in the month of November in 1931. In the first year of the institution, there were 75 students who were admitted, and there were 10 full-time lecturers who instructed them. The vast majority of students were able to successfully finish the first academic year despite the challenging material circumstances, the absence of training facilities, and the shortage of dorms. Students who had successfully completed the required coursework and examinations were then sent to various regions around the republic with the directive to carry out recruiting efforts in rural communities on behalf of the institution. In 1935, the very first commencement ceremony was held. 39 educators with a college degree or above were given to Dagestan. The university had 260 students enrolled when I attended there. In 1954, a new building with a total size of about 6,000 square metres was donated to the institution. This facility had assembly and sports halls in addition to classrooms. Meanwhile, the previous academic building was repurposed as a dormitory.
