Curv Health[1] is a Canadian developer of software products for allied healthcare professionals across North America. Curv Health was founded by Shea Balish in 2017.

Its products aim to help allied healthcare workers create their own business by selling appointments (virtual or in-person), packages, programs, messaging and physical goods. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Curv pivoted from a computer-vision API company for healthcare organizations to building its own products and services directly for healthcare workers.

History Dr. Balish founded Curv while completing his postdoctoral work via a Banting Fellowship at the University of Toronto in 2017. He observed the massive effect machine-learning was having in other areas of the University - including Jeffery Hinton's AI lab - and sought to apply the emerging technology to his own field of sport & kinesiology. Curv started here, with a computer-vision API used by US-based healthcare groups to assess the movement of an athlete for pre-hab & rehabilitation use cases. Over 10,000 patients experienced Curv's movement assessment technology, including thousands of athletes from the NBA, NHL, MLB and NCAA.

COVID-19 Pandemic During the COVID-19 pandemic, Curv had enormous demand from allied healthcare providers in the musculoskeletal space to use the technology themselves to assist with assessments and treatment of patients virtually. Recognizing that COVID-19 had drastically shifted consumers' willingness to use virtual care, the company set out on a new direction with the intent to shift from solely focused on the computer-vision API, to building out a broader platform that would allow healthcare providers to build their entire business on the Curv app - with computer vision just being one of the many features they could use.

Seed Financing In January 2022, Curv announced it had raised a $5.1 million seed financing around this vision of helping providers build their 'full stack digital clinic' with many remote monitoring tools, including computer vision. The financing was led by Toronto investors iGan Partners[2] - Canada's largest healthcare investment fund.

Future Looking ahead, the company has launched innovative products that help providers build and scale their own online businesses. The company re-launched its homepage as 'The Healthcare Marketplace' exposing its directory to search engines like Google for patients to find and connect with local healthcare providers building on the Curv platform - the first global marketplace for consumer healthcare.
