Curi Holdings, Inc. (“Curi”) is a multi-state, mutual insurance holding company providing advisory services primarily to healthcare providers and healthcare organizations. Curi’s subsidiaries/affiliates offer a range of services, including insurance for professional liability/medical malpractice and other lines, wealth management and other financial services, and healthcare consulting.

Company History

Medical Mutual Insurance Company of North Carolina (MMICNC) was founded in 1975 in response to a professional liability/medical malpractice crisis in North Caolina. Since then, the company’s insurance offerings have expanded to 45+ states and the District of Columbia. In addition to geographic expansion, the organization broadened its offerings to include a variety of services for physicians and medical practices via three business units: Curi Advisory, Curi Capital, and Curi Insurance.

In 2011, MMICNC began a reorganization process to transition its structure into a mutual insurance holding company. The goal of this reorganization was to pave the way for long-term sustainability; stronger, enhanced services; and, greater value for the company’s owners. With this reorganization, MMICNC formed Medical Mutual Holdings, Inc. in 2014 and created two divisions: insurance and investments.

In 2016, MMICNC acquired the rights to renew the portfolio of the Philadelphia-based medical malpractice insurer, Healthcare Providers Insurance Exchange (HPIX). This decision allowed the company to expand its footprint throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, and laid groundwork for further national expansion using a broker distribution model.

In 2019, Medical Mutual Holdings, Inc. announced it was rebranding to Curi to reflect its expanding offerings and new geographies. The same year, the company established its wealth management and financial services arm, Curi Capital, a registered investment advisor. In 2021, following the acquisition of Arrowlytics, Curi launched its third business unit, Curi Advisory, to help medical practice leaders protect and grow their businesses.
