Craig Percy James Reyes (born 15th March 1987 in Southwark, England) is a Gibraltarian / English Chess Player.

Early Life

Reyes began Chess at age 9. By the age of 10, a friend of the family and a English Chess Federation[1] club player, Colin Fell[2] began teaching Reyes. As an adult, Reyes was introduced to a chess tournament held in Gibraltar by Grandmaster Stuart Conquest who was the Director of the Gibraltar Chess Festival.[3]

Chess Career

Reyes has competed a few times in the Gibraltar Chess Festival, in rapid play tournaments in several locations in Spain, usually in Marbella which is organised by the Ajedrez Metro Club[4], at the British Chess Championship in Torquay and frequently online including in 4NCL online tournaments.

Reyes also provided Conquest assistance with a small Chess club for the youth of Gibraltar[5]. Due to COVID-19 the chess club stopped meeting and to this day has no longer returned. Reyes continued playing Online chess and has since returned to Over-the-board rapid play in Spain.

Strength & Style

Reyes learns and studies from two friends, Grandmaster Simon Williams (chess player) and Woman International Master Fiona Steil-Antoni and has adopted a style of risky attacking play and love for quirky chess openings. His chess strength is that of a club-player.

He gained the online FIDE titles of Arena Candidate Master in 2017 and then the Arena FIDE Master in 2019.
