Copenhagen is the capital and most populous city in the Danish state of Copenhagen. In 2022, the city had an estimated population of 805,402 (644,431 in Copenhagen Municipality, 103,608 in Frederiksberg Municipality, 42,723 in Trnby Municipality, and 14,640 in Dragr Municipality), according to the United Nations Population Division. It serves as the focal point of the larger urban area of Copenhagen (with a population of 1,336,982) as well as the greater Copenhagen metropolitan region (population 2,057,142). A section of the city is located on Amager Island, and it is divided from Malmö, Sweden, by the strait of resund. Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark and the largest city in the country by population. The resund Bridge, which links the two cities by rail and road, is a major landmark.

As a result of significant investment in its institutions and infrastructure, Copenhagen has seen significant urban and cultural growth since the start of the twenty-first century. In addition to serving as Denmark's cultural, economic, and administrative centre, the city is also one of the most important financial centres in Northern Europe, thanks to its home to the Copenhagen Stock Exchange. The service sector, particularly in information technology, pharmaceuticals, and clean technology, has witnessed tremendous growth in Copenhagen's economy, which has benefited from government efforts. Copenhagen has grown more connected with the Swedish province of Scania and its major city, Malmö, as a result of the building of the resund Bridge, which has given rise to the resund Region. The cityscape is characterised by parks, promenades, and waterfronts, which are connected by a number of bridges that link the main districts. The Tivoli Gardens, the Little Mermaid statue, the Amalienborg and Christiansborg palaces, Rosenborg Castle, Frederik's Church, Brsen, as well as several museums, restaurants, and nightclubs, are all popular tourist destinations in Copenhagen.

The University of Copenhagen, the Technical University of Denmark, the Copenhagen Business School, and the IT University of Copenhagen are all located in Copenhagen, as is the Danish Parliament. The Institution of Copenhagen, which was established in 1479, is the country's oldest university. The F.C. Copenhagen is based in the Danish capital. When the annual Copenhagen Marathon was first held in 1980, it was a huge success. Copenhagen is regarded to be among the world's most bicycle-friendly cities.

Movia is the public transportation system that serves all of eastern Denmark, with the exception of Bornholm. The Copenhagen Metro system, which was established in 2002, serves the city's core area. Additional public transportation options include the Copenhagen S-train, the Lokaltog (private railway), and the Coast Line network, which serve and link downtown Copenhagen to outlying municipalities. The Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup, handles around 2.5 million people every month, making it the busiest airport in the Nordic nations.
