Continental Energy Solutions is an American solar energy company in Oak Brook, IL.[1][2] It is a commercial solar installer that designs, installs, and maintains solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for rooftop and ground.[3] As of 2020, it has built over 100 solar PV projects and 40 megawatts of solar including installations on big box retail, warehouse, manufacturing, schools and college campuses.[4][5]

Founded in 2009, it was initially started as a division of Continental Electrical Construction Company. The company is the largest solar installer and solar contractor in Illinois.[6]

History

In 2009, electrical construction company Continental Electrical Construction started and incorporated a new, solar division of the company, Continental Energy Solutions. Continental Electrical Construction is a fourth generation family business owned and operated by David and Steven Witz.[7] Continental Energy Solutions was established by Brian Haug, a 25 year veteran of Continental Electrical Construction. Haug started his career as a project manager and was managing the company's Naperville office prior to starting Continental Energy Solutions, the solar division. He started the renewable energy division, which was incorporated as an independent company Continental Energy Solutions LLC in January 2020.[8]

Continental installed several of the first and largest retail rooftop solar arrays, including two IKEA stores in Chicagoland and the IKEA Joliet Warehouse which was the largest rooftop solar array in the Midwest at the time of its installation in 2017.[9] By 2012 the company saw growth and became the largest commercial industrial solar company and commercial solar installer in Illinois.[10] By January 2020, Continental has installed over 100 projects and over 40 megawatts of rooftop and ground Mount solar, including the two largest rooftop arrays in the Midwest, Ikea Joliet Distribution Center and Magid Glove in Romeoville.
