Computer security also known as cybersecurity or information technology security (IT security), is the protection of computer systems and networks against information disclosure, theft or damage to their hardware or software, or loss of their electronic data, as well as disruption or misdirection of the services that they provide.

It is becoming increasingly important as people rely more on computer systems, the Internet, and wireless network standards such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, as well as the proliferation of "smart" devices such as smartphones, televisions, and the various devices that make up the "Internet of things," among other factors. Because of its complexity, both in terms of politics and technology, cybersecurity is considered to be one of the most significant challenges facing the world today.
