Cole Nussbaumer Knaflic (born March 3, 1980) is an American writer, speaker, and CEO. She is founder and CEO of storytelling with data and author of books storytelling with data: a data visualization guide for business professionals (2015), storytelling with data: let's practice! (2019), and storytelling with you: plan, create, and deliver a stellar presentation (2022). She is a speaker on the topics of communicating effectively with data, presenting powerfully, and influencing change.[1]

Education

Knaflic holds a B.S. in Applied and Computational Mathematical Science (2002) and an M.B.A. from the Foster School of Business (2006) at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA.[2]

Career

Knaflic established storytelling with data to help people design graphs that communicate data and results for optimal outcomes.[3][4] Her data visualization workshops and presentations are used globally by individuals, companies, and philanthropic organizations.[5]

In addition to writing a blog[6] and hosting a podcast[7] covering topics on data presentation, Knaflic’s YouTube channel teaches subscribers about subjects related to creating and presenting data to audiences.[8] She has been a featured speaker at conferences on data culture and information.[9]

Prior to storytelling with data, Knaflic was a manager on the Google People Analytics team, where she employed a data-driven method to study, design, and implement people processes and management practices.[10][11] Knaflic also developed a course on data visualization that she taught at Google offices throughout the US and Europe.[12]

Books

Knaflic’s first book, storytelling with data: a data visualization guide for business professionals,[13][14][15] was published in 2015. It teaches the principals of data visualization and how to use data to communicate effectively. In 2019, Knaflic released storytelling with data: let’s practice!,[16] a companion workbook. storytelling with you: plan, create, and deliver a stellar presentation[17] debuted in 2022 to address the foundational learnings, illustrative content, and communication skills necessary to speak persuasively.
