Cody Crill is an American Football coach who currently serves as the Tight Ends coach for the D.C. Defenders of the XFL. Crill joined the staff in September 2022. In his first season with the Defenders, Crill helped lead the team to the inaugural XFL championship with a league best 9-1 record. He was a part of a coaching staff that guided the team to lead league in rushing offense, averaging 140.8 yards per game and were No. 2 in the XFL in total offense (343.2 yards per game) while also leading the league in total touchdowns.

Coaching Career

Crill started his coaching career as a defensive ends coach and volunteer offensive line coach with the Angelo State Rams in 2001 under coach Jerry Vandergriff and was with the team until 2004.

In 2004, he joined the staff at Trinity Valley Community College to serve as the coach for offensive line, defensive line & running backs. During his time with the Cardinals, Crill was a part of a program that earned an NJCAA Playoff berth in 2005.

In 2005, he transitioned to Winston-Salem State University to serve as the offensive line coach and spent three years with the Rams. In 2007 he helped the Rams finish as the 17th-ranked rushing offense in the country.

Crill was named the head coach at Navarro College on February 2, 2015, after having his interim tag removed. He served as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach from 2008 up until being named the head coach.

During his tenure with the Navarro, he earned a Southwest Junior College Football Championship berth in his first year as head coach. In 2016, Crill led the Bulldogs to a top 10 finish in the country. He was a part of a staff that won three straight a Southwest Junior College Football Championships from 2010-2012 as well as a national championship in 2010.

On January 22, 2018, it was announced that he would be joining the football program at the University of Incarnate Word to serve as offensive coordinator while also coaching running backs and tight ends.

During his tenure at UIW, the cardinals were Southland Conference Champions in 2018 and 2021. He helped coach the program to top 25 finishes in 2018 and 2021. In his first season with UIW, he helped guide the program to an FCS playoff berth and a Southland conference championship.

On January 10, 2022, Crill was announced as the offensive coordinator at Northwestern State University, where he was with the program until August of 2022.

Personal Life

Crill has two daughters, Kaylee and Cathryn.

He received his Bachelors and Master of Science in Kinesiology from Angelo State University.
