Clive Grinyer is a British designer, consultant, and academic recognized for his contributions to service design and customer experience.
He runs his independent design consultancy now+next.[1] Grinyer is also the author of Smart Products: How to Develop Winning New Products (2002)[2] and Redesigning Thinking: Service Design as a New Way of Designing Human-Centred Business (2024).[1]
Career
Early career and consultancy work
Grinyer began his career as a product designer with consultancies in London and San Francisco.[3] He co-founded the design consultancy Tangerine alongside Jonathan Ive, who later became Chief Design Officer at Apple.
Corporate leadership roles
Grinyer held senior design roles at Orange, Samsung, and Cisco, and was Director of Design at the UK Design Council, where he contributed to policy and industry engagement.
Financial services and service design
At Barclays, Grinyer led a service design team using customer insight and agile methods to develop digital products and improve services.
Academic work
Grinyer was Head of Service Design at the Royal College of Art and a visiting professor at the Glasgow School of Art. His work has applied design thinking to social and environmental challenges, including healthcare and sustainability.
