Claude Leblanc is a French journalist and author
Early life and education
A graduate of the Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales, his journalistic activities began while he was still a student. Bernard Béraud, a former journalist and founder of the publishing house Ilyfunet, entrusted him with a column on Japan in the Franco-Japanese newspaper OVNI (fr).[1]
Career
After working as a correspondent for Le Monde diplomatique and teaching in Japan from 1990 to 1993, he joined Courrier International, where he held a number of positions, including editor-in-chief. He also created the magazine's website (1995-1996).[2] He left the company in 2011 and joined Jeune Afrique as editor-in-chief until 2013.[3] In May 2013, he took part in the launch of L'Opinion, a daily newspaper founded by Nicolas Beytout, where, as a journalist and editorial writer, he covers Asian affairs.[4] He is also the founder of the free monthly Zoom Japon (fr).
Over the years, he has also written columns on international news for the Asahi Shimbun,[5] Japan's second-largest daily, and on sport and international relations for the Italian weekly Internazionale. Alongside his editorial activities, he teaches the ‘Views on Asia’ course at the Catholic University of Lille. He was also a lecturer for several years at Paris-Diderot University, where he taught a course entitled ‘Media and Power in Japan’.[6]
